Recent changes in the bankruptcy law require nearly everyone who wishes to file for bankruptcy protection to first receive credit counseling. The goal of this counseling requirement is to:

• Provide you with a comprehensive overview of your financial situation, including a budget, listing of debts and net worth estimate, and
• Inform you of commonly available options for someone in a financial crisis other than bankruptcy.

We are an approved agency to help you complete the required pre-filing counseling and provide you with the certificate you will need should you choose to file for bankruptcy protection.* We offer this service via the Internet, telephone and, in limited areas, in-person.

Please be advised that in most cases you will be charged $50.00 for this counseling service and the bankruptcy certificate. We do provide free services to certain consumers who are receiving free legal services or are receiving disability income. We will explain later how to pay for your session or what to do if you qualify for free services.
